    Jeffrey was an early and vociferous supporter of the Egan Report and of the changes it encouraged the industry to undertake. When Jeffrey became a Director of the Company in 1985, he was responsible for transforming the company from a specialist, heating contractor to a multi-million pound construction company, specialising in the social housing market where it has built an enviable reputation. Today, United House leads the way in that market with innovation and is very strong in both partnering and long-term strategic relationships with the public sector. Its subsidiary, United House Solutions Limited, established the first housing PFI scheme in Islington in May 2003 and two other schemes have subsequently followed. Modern City Living is the brand name of its in-house developer, which undertakes major residential new build, conversion, and refurbishment schemes for private sale in the Central London area.

    Emma Cariaga is the Head of Strategic Projects, the business unit responsible for strategic land acquisition within Land Securities. Emma is responsible for managing the group's residential joint ventures with third party developers and partners and for securing large-scale, residentially led mixed use opportunities both in Kent and the East of England.

    In the Thames Gateway this includes Chattenden Barracks, Medway where Emma leads the development management role for Defence Estates on the promotion for a mixed use new settlement of in excess of 5,000 new homes. In the East of England Land Securities has a number of strategic assets including an 2,400 acre urban extension north of Harlow which it is progressing, in joint venture with Places for People.

    She joined Land Securities in July 2007. Prior to joining Land Securities Emma was a Development Director for Barratt Developments, focussing on the Kent and South London areas. She was responsible for the acquisition of land and then managing them through the planning and development process.

    Robert Evans is an Executive Director of Argent Group plc. He joined Argent in 2001 after 9 years in planning and environmental consultancy, working on a wide range of public and private sector development, infrastructure, military and other projects. For the last 7 years, he has led the public consultation and planning work on the redevelopment and regeneration of 67 acres of former railway land at King's Cross, in Central London. Robert was appointed to the Argent Group Board in 2004.

    Pat has many years experience of housing, having worked for local authorities and housing associations across the Midlands. Pat was instrumental in establishing the original West Mercia Housing Group in 1998. She is a member of the NHF National Council and of the West Midlands Regional Executive Committee.

    Pat along with Howard Farrand has recently led the integration of Whitefriars Housing into West Mercia Group. The newly combined organisation has 22,000 homes across the West Midlands region and a substantial programme for development of new homes. In addition, West Mercia has two significant regeneration projects in progress; in North Solihull and Coventry NDC.

    A housing career spanning over 30 years began in the 1970's when Mick joined North Londonís Circle 33 Housing Trust. After qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor he completed a Masters Degree in Building Conservation in Edinburgh. He then moved on to work with a number of Housing Associations in North West England before rising to the challenge of his new role as Bromford's Chief Executive in 1984.

    Under Mick's leadership Bromford has grown from a small provider of 1,000 homes to a major Housing Group managing 23,500 homes and delivering a wide range of supported housing and other related community services. Bromford has built a national reputation as one of the largest developers of affordable new homes in the UK - building 1,000 new homes each year - as well as a great place of work, winning 5th place in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies' awards. Bromford also has a national reputation for Customer Service, winning the Unisys/Management Today Service Excellence Awards for the last two years.

    Mick openly promotes the importance of the Groupís strong team-based and people-focussed culture and encourages the growing trend of private sector specialists moving into social housing as a career.

    Mick's thirst for learning and innovation has also led him to complete a 3-year strategic owner-president Leadership programme at Harvard Business School as well as a 13 year involvement in Vistage, an international training programme for CEO's from all industries.

    He is a National Housing Federation Council Member; Chair of the West Midlands Executive Committee; board member of the Chartered Institute of Housing; and Chair of the Policy & Practice Board.

    He formed the winning consortium bid to regenerate North Solihull. This 15 year £1.6 Billion programme demolishes 'Radburn' properties, and replace with mixed housing developments, 15 primary schools and 3 new village centres.

    Kerry Kyriacou brings with him extensive experience in both commercial and residential development. As Group Director of New Business and Development he has grown Affinity Sutton into one of the country's top ten developing registered social landlords, with Inside Housing citing the Group as "the biggest development player in the housing association world" (June 2008).

    Under Kerry's directorship, Affinity Sutton completed 1,200 new homes in the last year of which included a healthy sales programme despite the difficult market conditions. Affinity Sutton also has nearly 4,000 new homes approved. As one of the Homes and Communities Agency's development partners, we increased our grant funding and exceeded our completion targets for projects funded under the National Affordable Housing Partnership programme.

    Kerry's background as qualified architect and member of the Royal Institute of British Architects has influenced Affinity Sutton's strong commitment to creating well designed homes and communities. This commitment has contributed to the creation of an Affinity Sutton Framework for Architectural as well as Employers Agent Services.

    His development career began in industry working for Smiths Group, a large multi-national group and then went on to architecture practice. Prior to joining Affinity Sutton, Kerry was at Hyde Housing Association as Assistant Director for their London region.

    Kerry is married with three children. Hobbies include music, travel, cycling and football - watching not playing.

    Shaun Hanrahan is Commercial Director at Swish Building Products, part of the Epwin Group which manufactures a wide range of low maintenance building products.

    Shaun began his career with T I Group in 1979 before moving to BaCo, British Alcan and then Williams Holdings in the 1990s. He has worked in the building materials sector for 25 years latterly at Swish where he has lead the commercial activities for the last 14 years.

    At Swish Shaun has been responsible for the development of products and services tailored to the requirements of the housing sector in newbuild and refurbishment. He represents the Epwin Group at the British Plastics Federation and the Construction Products Association and has been a leading member of the UK team in the development of European Technical Standards for Roofline products.

    Shaun is particularly interested in the development of practical solutions to the challenge of sustainable development in the housing sector.

    David Birkbeck is Chief Executive of Design for Homes, which runs the Housing Design Awards and Building for Life for DCLG. In the past 12 months, the not-for-profit research company has published Perceptions of Privacy in Higher Density Housing which analysed consumer preferences in houses and flats. DFH has also published analysis of house plans and how they function according to household type, plus most recently in May 2006 a car parking toolkit for English Partnerships designed to accommodate increased parking provision more sensitively. David wrote the methodology for the Housebuilder Customer Satisfaction survey used by Housing Forum and the matrix for Building for Life now used by DCLG, EP and development agencies such as Transform South Yorkshire. Design for Homes runs the Prefabulous Homes series of events and runs action learning tours for elected members on planning committees to see the best new housing developments.

    As former Chairman of PRP, Barry now acts as a consultant to the practice. His early work with PRP focused on New Towns where he was project architect for a number of major award winning schemes. Barry was appointed as Chairman in 2001.

    In the early 1990's, Barry formed a specialist group within PRP to tackle the large-scale regeneration opportunities arising from initiatives such as the City Challenge. This led to PRP's appointment for projects like Chichester Road Hulme in Manchester, Waltham Forest Housing Action Trust, Church End and Roundwood ERCF, plus the Edmonton Partnership Initiative.

    A keen advocate of international best practice, Barry is particularly interested in housing prefabrication and regularly tours countries worldwide to study and research new industrialised methods of construction.

    Barry has undertaken research on behalf of the London Housing Federation and for CABE into high density housing, comparing exemplar schemes from Sweden and The Netherlands. He has also undertaken a trade mission to Japan with the DTI to market UK skills in urban regeneration.

    Andy is a Chartered Building Surveyor and qualified Project Manager.

    He is an Equity Partner at Baily Garner LLP and RICS APC Assessor.

    Trained to IVM advanced level 2, he is responsible for the development and application of Value Management Techniques.

    Andy has lead on a number of large urban regeneration schemes and his technical background covers refurbishment, design and build, construction management, adaptations and special needs projects within the Public, Private, Residential and Commercial sectors.

    He is also a member of the Bermondsey Group and responsible within his Practice for ensuring reviews of legislation and thinking that affects the industry. Consequently Andy has provided strategic advice to clients and influential bodies.

    Andy chaired Baily Garner's internal Egan Core Group and has provided advice on Strategic Procurement to a range of clients. As a result, he has strong views on partnering arrangements and what works, what doesn't and why.

    Andy works closely with Baily Garner's Environmental Assessment Group and was instrumental in a number of influential publications; most recently he has pioneered a low carbon refurbishment initiative with a Housing Association, working on a portfolio of street properties.

    Michael gained his Chartered status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1976 and has been a Fellow since 1985.

    Michael is a founding Partner of calfordseaden, a leading construction and property consultancy; building this Partnership from initially providing a chartered surveying service to now, nearly 30 years later, offering a full multidisciplined service via four offices in Orpington, London, Birmingham and Winchester.

    During Michael's career he has served as a Member of the RICS Practice and Techniques Committee and the RICS Defects Working Party.

    Through his leadership calfordseaden is now recognised as a market leader in providing professional services, working across both the public and private sectors. Michael and calfordseaden have very strong links with the affordable housing market and have worked on some of the UK's leading projects, with one such example being Peckham Partnership where he was fundamental in setting up the original Strategic Partnership Agreement between the London Borough of Southwark, nine housing associations and two major developers. Over a 12 year period this Partnership delivered more than 2,000 mixed tenure affordable and private for sale homes and various improvements to the local environment and community facilities. Following this, calfordseaden have gone on to play an instrumental role in further regeneration schemes.

    The Partnership now includes a significant team responding to Private Finance (PFI) opportunities.

    Andrew Hannan is Head of Land and Property at Communities and Local Government. As a chartered surveyor Andrew heads the Department's teams that provide internal valuation advice and engage with the property industry. He also leads on the cross-government programme ensuring that surplus public sector land is brought forward for housing development. Innovative programmes within Andrew's remit include the Carbon Challenge, which is fast tracking the creation of zero carbon communities at level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

    His earlier career covered a wide range of surveying roles including portfolio management, agency and valuations. Latterly Andrew was a deputy director in the London region of the former Property Advisers to the Civil Estate (now OGC) where he was responsible for the Government's property strategy across London and the South East.

    John Stewart is Director of Economic Affairs at the Home Builders Federation and edits the monthly Housing Market Report.

    He was Barker Review project coordinator for HBF and a Review Consultant for the Callcutt Review. His policy responsibilities include the economy, the housing and mortgage markets, demographic trends, housing supply, new home valuation, the private rented sector, customer satisfaction, and the Cumulative Impact of Regulation on housing viability and supply. He manages HBF's trends surveys, compiles a regional housing affordability index and is responsible for HBF's contacts with the Treasury and Bank of England.

    Before joining HBF in 2003 he was an independent consultant for over ten years and previously divisional Sales & Marketing Director for house builder Wates.

    His publications included a monthly Viewpoint column in Housebuilder and Building a Crisis (2002), the first report to highlight the growing housing supply crisis in England and begin examining its social and economic consequences

    Ian Davis is a chartered civil engineer, a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

    Ian is NHBC's Operations Director, with board level responsibility for their inspection, engineering, building control and technical and consultancy services, as well as their marketing strategy and regional director group.
